The Van Gogh Museum is a museum in Amsterdam, Netherlands, featuring the works of the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh and his contemporaries. It has the largest collection of Van Gogh's paintings and drawings in the world.

Main exhibition

The main exhibition chronicles the various phases of Van Gogh's artistic life. Highlights[citation needed] include The Potato Eaters, Bedroom in Arles, and one of the three Sunflowers paintings with a yellow background, Still Life: Vase with Twelve Sunflowers.[citation needed]

The museum also features notable paintings by von Gogh's contemporaries in the Impressionist and post-Impressionist movements and holds extensive exhibitions on various subjects from 19th Century art history.[2]

The building

The main structure was designed by Gerrit Rietveld and opened in 1973. The architect of the 1999 Exhibition Wing was Kisho Kurokawa.
